A severe one was Ike. Being in Dallas you wouldn't really have to flee for electricity or safety sometimes. You also don't have to live in Houston, you could live in Katy (like 15 minutes away) for a little cheaper, but that would add to your commute, unless you want to work at one of thehospitalss in Katy, like Methodist, or the new Texas Childrens' West Campus (No ICUs there), Katy would be nice to live in, but I live in West Houston, which is very close to Katy. If you move to Houston or Dallas, you totally HAVE to visit Austin. It's an awesome liberal city, with the randomest things, and it's a lot of fun. Anyways, I would move to Houston out of those options with your given criteria.
