Publishing problem Empty Publishing problem

My publishing box is acting strangely.

After editing a page or pages, I save & publish. After going through its normal routine the "Cancel" button remains for nearly two minutes before changing to the "OK" button. There are no errors showing.
On one occassion when publishing 107 pages it stopped at page 38. After a two minute wait it changed to ok & all pages were published.

The edit changes seem to be ok but the long hesitation leaves me a little concerned.

Any ideas how to get it back to normal functioning?
