ad line in most American Newspapers of the time. One author that captured this phenomenon rather well was William Manchester in his book "Goodbye Darkness". In the opening section of the book he speaks specifically to the reason and to quite frank it made sense to me as I read through the opening pages. Many Americans as you know immigrated from a lot of different points in Europe during the 19th
