how to buy iphone without any contract

Hi,

I would like to know if there is any straight forward way we can buy iphone in canada without any contract in canada.

I found in Rogers they are offering iphone 3GS 16GB for 768 CAD(with tax)
and Iphone 3G 8 GB for 655 CAD(with tax)

I find it pretty expensive. I will be going abroad and If I take iphone with contract how is it going to workout?

Is there a better way to get unlocked iphones for better price?
